Company: We are the Northern California office of the 20th largest retained executive search firm in the world. We are a generalist firm that places senior-level executives into all types of companies in a range of positions from finance, operations and management to sales and marketing, technology and human resources.

Job Description: You will assist the manager and his executive assistant as well as other members of the Team with the office’s administrative functions. This position is best suited for a flexible, responsible self-starter who enjoys juggling many tasks and can comfortably work in a fast-paced and small office environment. We are looking for someone who can see what needs to be done and do it without too much oversight. This person must have a good sense of humor and a touch of class.

Job Specifics:

· Customer Service: Communicate with clients and candidates. Excellent customer service via phone, email and letter.

· Scheduling: Help manage & maintain Director’s schedule. Act as interface for all corporate meetings and events.

· Team Player: Coordinate with and assist other members of the TEAM – both in and out of the office.

· Database maintenance: Learn all aspects of Executive and Corporate database. Enter and update candidate and company information. Sort unsolicited resumes and enter qualifying resumes into database.

· Office Organization: Keep files current and organized. Support office projects.

· Office Work Flow Coordination- Ensure quality and completeness of executive search projects.

· Marketing: Refine and edit client communications. Print, assemble and bind as needed.

· Phones: Must have great phone presence; answer candidate and search consultants’ questions.

Skills & Qualifications:

· Technical: Aptitude for computers. Familiar with database applications, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Outlook. Web savvy.

· Functional: Comfortable in sales/marketing environment. Recruiting or HR knowledge a plus.

· TEAM Player: Can partner and support seasoned Recruiters both inside and outside office. Enjoys learning and assuming more responsibility. Good multi-tasker. Can flex duties as required.

· People Skills: Polished communicator with professional phone and email manner.

· Writing Skills: Excellent written skills. Can craft a well written letter.

· Education: Dominican Student (preferred) with a desire to learn.

2012 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program

2012 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program - Deadline: November 15, 2011

The United States Department of State is pleased to announce the scholarship competition for the 2012 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program for overseas intensive summer language institutes in thirteen critical need foreign languages. CLS institutes provide fully-funded group-based intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences for seven to ten weeks for U.S. citizen undergraduate and graduate students. Students may apply for one language, and will be placed at institute sites based on language evaluations after selection.

Languages offered: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla/Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, and Urdu.

Boren Scholarships and Fellowships

The applications for the 2012-2013 David L. Boren Scholarships and Fellowships are now available at www.borenawards.org. Boren Awards provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to study in Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East, where they can add important international and language components to their educations.

Boren Scholarships provide undergraduate students up to $20,000 for an academic year’s study abroad. Boren Fellowships provide graduate students up to $30,000 for language study and international research. In exchange for funding, recipients commit to working in the federal government for a minimum of one year.

The Language Flagship
The Language Flagship is a breakthrough in foreign language and culture instruction in the United States designed to help individuals achieve superior-level proficiency in critical languages including Arabic, Chinese, Hindi/Urdu, Korean, Persian, Swahili, and Russian. Flagship students participate in advanced language programs offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Language Flagship Fellowship is an award for up to two-years for graduate students to support their intensive language study at Flagship institutions in the U.S. and overseas. Flagship Fellowships are available for the study of Arabic, Chinese, Korean, and Persian at designated Flagship Programs. Eligible applicants for Flagship Fellowships must be U.S. citizens with advanced proficiency in the Flagship language of study. Past recipients of Boren Scholarships or Fellowships are eligible to apply for the Flagship Fellowship. In addition, students currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate Flagship programs may apply for Boren funding to participate in overseas Flagship programs.

Ode is a magazine and website about the people, passion, and possibilities changing our world for the better. Ode Magazine was established in The Netherlands in 1995. In 2003 a US office was established in Mill Valley, just north of San Francisco, to produce an international English-language edition.The Public Relations Intern will assist Ode Magazine with various PR initiatives.

The intern should be a creative, self-starter with the ability to build on ideas and work independently while taking direction and input from team members. Experience in the workplace is not required, but students with concentrations in Public Relations, Marketing or Communication are preferred. American Society of Safety Engineers/Oregon State University Environment, Safety and Health PhD Fellowship

Purpose:
The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) is committed to creating a vibrant future for the field of occupational safety and health. Towards that end, ASSE has created a PhD fellowship opportunity in conjunction with Oregon State University to fund tuition costs for two PhD candidates admitted to OSU’s PhD in Public Health, concentrating in Environment, Safety, and Health.

ASSE wants to ensure that there are enough qualified educators to teach the next generation of occupational safety and health professionals that have been schooled in formal academic research practices and pedagogy.

This fellowship program is also intended to produce a thread of evidence-based research in the economic and financial analysis of environmental, safety and health issues and practices. Doctoral candidates will be required to complete a number of research projects to advance this subfield of safety management research.

Eligibility Requirements:
· Basic Requirements: The ASSE PhD fellowship program is only open to applicants that are natural or naturalized citizens of the United States. All candidates must have attended a higher education program in the United States. Proof of citizenship and a copy of the individual’s bachelor’s and master’s degree diploma will be required upon final offer.
· Acceptance to Oregon State University: In order to apply for this fellowship, the applicant must initially apply to Oregon State University’s PhD program in Public Health with a concentration in Environment, Safety and Health. For more information on the PhD program application requirements, please see the PhD graduate program website http://www.hhs.oregonstate.edu/ph/graduate-programs where more detailed information about the PhD in Public Health as well as fellowship information can be read.
· Academic and Professional Background: Applicants for this PhD program may have an academic and professional background in Public Health, Business, Engineering or other allied discipline.
· Personal Statement and References: In addition to the OSU PhD program application materials, the applicant must submit a 2 page personal statement describing why they believe environment, safety and health education is important for the nation. In addition, the applicant must produce at least 2 references that can be contacted by OSU to validate the applicant’s intentions to teach and do research.

Terms of Appointment:
The fellowship recipient must enroll in the PhD program at Oregon State University as a full-time student for a period of three years.

It's Almost October

October is almost here and it is my favorite time of year. Not only because the air gets crisp and the leaves start to change colors and Halloween is fun and the holidays are right around the corner, but also because I get to do what I love most about my job and that is ADVISING!! Off Campus Event

The Rocky Mountain Institute is hosting an RMI Quest for Solutions (RMIQ) panel discussion in San Francisco, October 2, 2009 at 7:00pm at the Westin – Market Street, and Dominican MBA students are encouraged to attend.

The RMIQ will focus on strategies and solutions to spark the transition from fossil fuels to efficiency and renewables, and highlight the opportunities that this shift presents. This event will be a great opportunity for Dominican students to interact with leaders in business and energy, as well as network with likeminded students and professional at a reception following the panel.

Labor Day Weekend

I am sure you have not forgotten that this coming weekend is Labor Day weekend, so Monday is a holiday. What you may have forgotten is that Tuesday, September 8 is the Last Day to Add a Class. If you are dropping a class, Tuesday is also the last day to drop a class with an 85% refund. So, although you may have a long weekend of fun ahead, please remember that Tuesday is very important. The Registrar's Office opens at 9:00am and closes at 6:00pm.

Just so you know about another important date, here it is:

September 14 - last day to drop a class without a "W" on your transcripts (also the last day for 70% of your refund)

An Official Welcome Back!

Well, classes have been in session for over a week now and I want to welcome everyone. Welcome back to those who have been with us and welcome to those who are brand new. I hope you had a restful summer and that you are ready to start the new year fresh. For new students, I hope Dominican has welcomed you and you feel that this is your new home. We are excited to see all the new faces.

I want to remind everyone that the School of Business is on the second floor of Bertrand Hall and the majority of your Business faculty can be found here. If you are looking for your intructor's office hours, they are listed on the door of his or her office. If you can't find their office, come to the front desk in room 26 and we can help. As the Academic Advisor, I can also be found in room 26, so if you have questions about classes, schedules, adding and dropping, or just about anything, please feel free to stop by Monday through Thursday. I am not in the office on Fridays.

I hope you have had a great start and I look forward to seeing each of you as the semester continues!
